Lighting techniques

The aim of the various lighting techniques is to achieve the greatest possible contrast of the object features to be detected in order to achieve efficient and reliable results for image processing or image analysis. The interaction of the lighting with the test object and its properties must be taken into account.
The roughest subdivision of lighting technology is into reflected light and transmitted light illumination. Further subdivisions are the angle of incidence of the illumination on the test object, the color (wavelength) of the illumination, directed or diffuse, unpolarized or polarized and possibly also coherent properties(laser).
