EMC

EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) is defined in the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC as the ability of a device to operate satisfactorily in an electromagnetic environment without itself causing electromagnetic disturbance that would be unacceptable to other devices in that environment.
In EMC, a distinction is made between electromagnetic emissions (EME) and electromagnetic immunity (EMS).
Electromagnetic interference emission (EMI emission) is a generic term for EMC interference caused by a power supply unit. The propagation of the interference is conducted emission or radiated emission.
The limit values for emitted interference depend on the place of use and are specified in the generic standards or in product standards. Electromagnetic immunity (EMI immunity) is a generic term for EMC interference that a power supply unit must be able to withstand. The interference can have a conducted immunity or a radiated immunity effect on the power supply unit from outside.
