UV light, UV radiation

Abbreviation for ultraviolet light or radiation.
Electromagnetic radiation in the optical frequency range with shorter wavelengths than the light perceptible to the human eye. “Ultraviolet” means “beyond violet”, the color stimulus with the shortest visible wavelength. Beyond UV radiation comes X-rays.
The UV spectrum ranges from 380 to 100 nm (380 nm is the limit of the human eye’s sensitivity).
The UV spectrum is subdivided into:
– UV-A: 380 to 315 nm
– UV-B: 315 to 280 nm
– UV-C: 280 to 100 nm
– VUV (vacuum ultraviolet): < 200 nm, as absorption by acid begins below 200 nm.
In astronomy, the categorization is slightly different:
– NUV (near UV): 400 to 300 nm
– MUV (Middle UV): 300 to 200 nm
– FUV (far UV): 200 to 100 nm
– EUV (Extreme UV): 100 to 10 nm
