Blue light hazard
Blue light hazard (BLH) is defined as a risk to the retina from radiation in the range of approx. 410 to 480 nm (half-width) with a maximum sensitivity at 440 nm.
This high-energy blue light can cause so-called photoretintis, photochemical damage to the retina caused by degeneration of the macula (AMD; damage to the retinal pigment epithelium cells, photoreceptors and ganglion cells; uveal melanoma). Photoretinitis is considered to be the main cause of blindness in old age.
